Your ToneDen links broke. Nobody told you.

In March 2024 the fanlink.to domain expired and every ToneDen smart link stopped working, with no warning. Here's the story, and the lesson that outlives it.

What ToneDen actually does

ToneDen was a smart-link and marketing platform widely used by independent artists and labels, acquired by Eventbrite in November 2020. For years it was a default choice for pre-saves, smart links and campaign links.

Where it leaves you exposed

  • In March 2024 the fanlink.to domain expired. Every FanLink, TourLink and BigLink built on it stopped resolving — including links printed on artwork, embedded in old posts, and sitting in thousands of bios.
  • There was no warning. Artists found out when fans complained, or when they noticed ad budget burning against links that pointed at nothing.
  • The remedy was a manual rebuild of every link onto a replacement domain. Years of accumulated promotion, re-pointed by hand, one URL at a time.
  • The lesson isn't 'pick a more stable link tool'. Every link you share points at somebody else's domain. The link was never the asset — the fan behind it was, and there was no way to reach them directly once the URL died.

Why did my ToneDen links stop working?
The fanlink.to domain expired in March 2024. Every link built on that domain stopped resolving. Eventbrite, which acquired ToneDen in 2020, attributed it to an issue with its domain provider and issued a replacement domain.
Can I fix my old ToneDen links?
The fix offered was to recreate links on the replacement domain — a manual process per link. Anything already printed, posted or embedded with the old URL cannot be repointed retroactively.
How do I make sure this doesn't happen again?
You can't guarantee any tool or domain survives. What you can control is whether the fan list is exportable at any time, so an outage costs you a link rather than an audience.
